“Sound of Silence” with Lyrics
“The Sound of Silence” is a song. The song had been performed by Simon & Garfunkel and it was written by Paul Simon for many months in 1963 and 1964. After the studio audition, they had signed a record deal with Columbia Record. In March 1964, the original acoustic version of the song was being recorded at Columbia Studios in New York City and had been released on 19 October, 1964. The song was included on their debut album “Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M” but after releasing the album, it was a commercial failure. For this reason, Simon went back to England and Art Garfukel started his study at Columbia University.
In 1965, Tom Wilson had remixed the track which was being released on September 1965 but Simon and Garfunkel didn’t know about the song’s remix. The song reached at the top position on the Billboard Hot 100. Simon & Garfunkel again reunite and they had recorded their second album, which Columbia had titled “Sounds of Silence”.
"The Sound of Silence" had been used in several movies including Kingpin (1996), Old School (2003), Bobby (2006), Watchman (2009), Trolls (2016), and One Twelve Years Night (2018).
In 2012, the song had been added to the National Recording Registry in the Library of Congress because of being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically important"

“Sound of Silence” Lyrics
Hello, darkness,
My old friend
I've come to talk
With you again
Because a vision
Softly creeping
Left its seeds
While I was sleeping
And the vision
That was planted
In my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence
In restless dreams
I walked alone
Narrow streets
Of cobblestone
'Neath the halo
Of a streetlamp
I turned my collar
To the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed
By the flash
Of a neon light
That split the night
And touched
The sound of silence
And in the naked light
I saw
Ten thousand people,
Maybe more
People talking
Without speaking
People hearing
Without listening
People writing songs
That voices never share
No one dared disturb
The sound of silence
"Fools," said I,
"You do not know
Silence like
A cancer grows
Hear my words
That I might teach you
Take my arms
That I might reach you."
But my words
Like silent raindrops fell
And echoed
In the wells of silence
And the people
Bowed and prayed
To the neon god
They made
And the sign flashed out
Its warning
In the words
That it was forming
And the sign said,
"The words of the prophets
Are written
On the subway walls
And tenement halls
And whispered
In the sounds of silence."
