There are allegations that the melody, rhythm, and the drum composition of Sheeran's song "Thinking Out Loud" are similar to Marvin Gaye's 1973 hit 'Let's Get It On'. On 10 August 2016, Sheeran was sued for plagiarism by the heirs of Ed Townsend, the author of the song "Let's Get It On" but in February 2017 the case was dismissed. On June 28, 2018, a similar lawsuit was filed against Ed Sheeran by Structured Asset Sales for $100 million in damages.
